Pediatric Chiropractor shares research on constipation in children
Calabasas Chiropractor, Dr. Andrea Mills sees children of all ages
Constipation is a common problem among pediatric patients, and affects up to 29.6% of children.
The patient was a 5 year old girl with a history of constipation, bloating, and pain since she was six months old. The doctor of chiropractic performed a chiropractic examination and found abnormal postural and some spinal misalignments. It was determined that chiropractic care was warranted. Based on the exam findings, the doctor of chiropractic adjusted the child’s spine in the specific misaligned areas. The patient’s mother was instructed to continue with dietary modifications as recommended by her MD.
By the patient’s 10th visit, all of her constipation and bloating issues were completely resolved.
It is important to note that spinal adjustments are not intended to “treat” constipation itself, but to reduce vertebral subluxation (a misaligned bone with negative consequences on nervous system communication from brain to body). By restoring normal physiology, the body is able to work as it should, and in this case, helped to resolve chronic constipation in a young girl.
